Abstract

Four cases of traumatic arteriovenous fistula were treated surgically during past three years at Chin-Hae Neval Medical Center and satisfactory postoperative results were obtained. In case 1, the fistula was found to have developed between right common iliac artery and vein two days after partial lumbar discoidectomy and it was immediately repaired by primary suture of the injured artery. This is thought to be the first documented case of the traumatic arteriovenous fistula complicated by lumbar discoidectomy in Korea.
In the other three cases, who had sustained multiple shrapnels wounds in VietNam, the fistula developed on the lower extremities and those were treated by primary suture, quadruple ligation and excision, and Teflon graft respectively.
The veins were sacrificed in all cases.
Pertinent review of literatures was also done.
